Establish a saltwater aquarium - An Overview

The creation of a saltwater aquarium, sometimes, but worth the effort. As you prepare for each step of the process, you should not run into major problems down the road.

The first step is to buy an aquarium and equipment will be configured everything. Usually, a saltwater tank can take about 1-2 pounds of live rock per aquarium gallon and ½ pound of 1 kilo of sand per gallon of water. Avoid sand sandbox because I do not know what other material may be present in the sand that could harm the fish. Aquariums require live sand, a sand base aragonite or crushed coral.

Setting everything up

Now that you have the equipment ready to go, it's time to configure everything. Rinse tank with water, but do not use soap, as the residue left behind is often harmful to fish.

Add in the background chosen for the deposit or painting, an appropriate color. If you choose to paint the tank, allow the paint to dry for a couple of days.

Once this is achieved, install the heater, filter, protein skimmer and all that have decided to add the aquarium. Use a drip loop on all power cords for safety reasons.

Before connecting in, go ahead and add premixed saltwater aquarium. There are many combinations available in the market, so the one you choose depends on your own personal preferences. This step is very easy - just follow the instructions on the package. Be sure to try the salt water with a hydrometer or refractometer before adding to your tank.

Once done you can turn on the aquarium - Allow to circulate for a few days before adding anything else to the tank.

If you've decided to use live rock, which have to be cured before adding the fish to the aquarium. This may take a long time, but worth it for the benefits of live rock filtration. Once the rocks are ready can go ahead.

Add substrate (make sure to turn food), and then wait several days for the tank settle down. Test the water and ensure that all readings are where they belong.

After the tank has cycled, add water fish saltwater quarantine tank. Add only a few at a time so that the filtration system has time to adjust.

Ok I will put my 46g and I know the whole process to start filling up, but in a few weeks when the water has evaporated or must be cleaned, how I can add water? I have one of those things .... hydrometer Is it simply mix water with salt and add it as I would a freshwater tank. Slowly pour in the tank?

When the water evaporates, leaving the salt, making the water saltier. You need to add fresh R / O water to lower the salinity. Mix salt with fresh R / O water in a bucket separately. Make sure the salinity is right, then you pour it into the tank.
